Theme House Corner: The Lounge

1

At 50 Park Street, you may hear streaming through the front window, “Hi, we’re the sober house.”

Yes, “sober” is one way to view the lifestyle of those who reside in the cramped quarters of The Lounge, but do not let our sense of humor fool you.

We exist to promote safe drinking on campus, let students define what sobriety means to them (if they choose to be, we are all about choices here… just ask our tea cupboard), and provide an alternative space for those long weekend nights to hang out, steer clear of the drunken hoards, and maybe watch some meme compilations or drink some non-alcoholic beverages (for once) (not judging though).

Every member of the house is a member of our supporting club, The Barista, which holds meetings on Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Crandell Room.

We host Safe Saturday nights, with events ranging from games, to cooking, to making shower bombs and playing with orbeez.

We also hold our weekly Coffeehouse event at 4:30 p.m. on Thursdays. During these, we open up the house as a space to chill out, study, or pet the cat (Jo holds all of the brain cells in the house) while drinking coffee, tea, or any other beverage we have in the fridge at the moment (looking at you, apple cider).

If any of this sounds cool to you, and you feel like sitting on a futon under a giant pride flag, or if you really just want to pet the cat (we get it, it’s spooky season and black cats are IN) join The Barista on Presence or stop by The Lounge at 50 Park Street for a chat!

Upcoming events: First Saturdays – every first Saturday of the month in the Winston Room from 9pm-11pm and Substance Awareness Week: October 27th – November 3rd.
