How Will We GET Our Food?
Students Struggle Ordering Food With GET App
It seems extremely convenient that we can order our meals and snacks right on our phones and pick them up within 20 minutes. However, this hasn’t been the reality for many students in the first few
weeks of the semester. This is mostly due to issues with the GET App. Students have taken issue with the app not working properly, including freezing, glitching and lagging which prevents some students from ordering from the Pub. In general, using the app is not as easy as it would seem.
Students have also complained about the new formatting of the app, finding it “confusing” and difficult to navigate. Returning students will find that the food sections have changed, becoming more complex. It definitely takes some getting used to. One student, Tori Ledoux ’27, explained that the meal exchange section never shows up for her, making it impossible for her to order meal exchanges. Other times, sections of the Pub are just simply closed, limiting the choices students have for food options, especially those on the Weekly 7 plan. Similarly, other students are upset that they are unable to order breakfast from the Pub before their morning classes. Unwilling or unable to use one of their limited Dana swipes, this means some people must go until lunchtime without a proper meal.
Another student, Hannah Jackson ’27, explained that because of the times the Pub is actively taking orders, it is hard to get food at all, especially with a busy schedule. When trying to order quickly before or in between classes and sports practices, oftentimes she gets an “order can’t be processed” notification. Sometimes, the next available time to order isn’t for another hour or so and, by that point, she is too busy to go get something to eat. This is a reality for many students and can cause them to go hungry throughout the day. These issues create a real problem for students in receiving the nutrition that they need.
I spoke with a student employee at the Pub who explained that most of these problems are due mostly to the app itself rather than the Pub. It is also important to note that the long waiting times may not always be due to the app, but due to the high number of orders at one time. The Pub workers are doing the best they can to keep up with the orders to ensure all get the meals they need, however, the issues with the GET App are making that more increasingly difficult.
Students feel they are lacking delicious Pub food because of the issues with GET App. They are practically begging for a software update.
