A Not-So-Boring November

Recs To Turn Around a Traditionally Sad Month

I was taken aback when I went to order my pumpkin coffee, and it was unavailable the literal morning after Halloween. I have spoken to many people about their thoughts on this month, I have heard lots of negative feedback. It seems that most want to skip November because the autumnal month has come to an end, but winter has not yet begun. Do we look ahead to Christmas now and skip over the month that contains Thanksgiving? Maybe it would be easier if we had something to look forward to rather than feeling like we must rush from pumpkin to peppermint mocha. Let’s take a moment to think about the month of November.

Some songs for this upcoming month instead of Mariah Carey’s “All I want for Christmas Is You” that I will be listening to include “Need 2” by Pinegrove, “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer, “Gold Dust Woman” by Fleetwood Mac, “Savannah” by flipturn, “Old Pine” by Ben Howard and “Dawns” by Zach Bryan featuring Maggie Rogers, to name a few. These songs give you a homey feeling and have a comfortable tune which makes you want to listen again.

A couple of movies so you so you don’t get sick of Hallmark movies before December 1 include: a classic, “A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving.” If you are looking for something for a good laugh and some nostalgia, I would recommend “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules.” It takes place right around this lovely time of year. If you are not really a movie person, a good series to wrap up fall is “Normal People.” Now maybe instead of stressing about when to get rid of the pumpkins on the porch and dig out the Christmas wreath, you can take a moment to recognize the month we are in and the holiday that comes with it.
