Spring-back from Springfest
A couple of things up front: could the weather truly have been any worse on Saturday? Was there a single soul standing in the audience who knew any song other than “Tongue Tied?” And finally, whose super-educated idea was it to schedule Springfest on 4/20?
So many questions, so few answers. But still, a great time! Personally, my Springfest started pretty late, despite having been woken up to the sound of set-up on the intramural field bright and early at 8 a.m.! It is possible that I took a nap, skipped my pre-game, and got ready in about 20 minutes before pushing myself to the center of the audience-slash-mob at around 6:30 p.m. I didn’t see much of the opener, but from what I heard… I didn’t really need to.
No, most people agreed that the real Springfest started up as the sun went down, the lights came on, and GROUPLOVE came out with all their bright and booming Springfest energy. Anyone that looked bored beforehand was surely rocking out by the third set. Or – at the least – head bobbing along with a confused smile, happy just to be surrounded by friends, take Instagram pics, and have a break from pre-finals stress.
I know I was. There’s something about the energy of a concert – the overwhelmingness and chaos of it all, maybe– that has kind of an ecstatic effect on me. I was able to leave all my bad energy in my dorm and have a great night, and I think most of the other Saints were able to as well. Really, my only complaint was that the concert wasn’t longer! All that anticipation for an hour of playing time?
Honestly though, I’m sure most people were too fried to last much longer. I saw a lot of people leave after “Tongue Tied,” and no one I knew made it to any post-concert plans, let alone going the Ticker. Probably because they were all waiting in line at the Pub for the food they ordered hours ago. Those poor NorthStar workers. They should really be paid more.
Anyway, here’s to hoping for better weather and, somehow, wider smiles this Friday for Folkfest!
