Taylor Swift began her career way back in 2006. At first, she started off producing country music, but over the past couple of years, she has moved onto the pop music scene and gained immense popularity. Some of her most popular albums released fairly recently have been “Evermore,” “Folklore,” and “Midnights.” All three of these albums are included in her Era’s tour, which has been going on since March 17 of this year and is set to continue until August 9.
However, with every light, there must be darkness. With this boom in popularity, there has also been an increase in the amount of hate towards Taylor Swift, both from men and women. I believe that this hate is unfounded. While it is perfectly okay to not enjoy the particular kinds of music she creates, there is not much reason to hate her as a person. In fact, I would argue that much of this hate stems from misogyny. Do people hate her because she has done anything wrong? Or do they hate her simply because she is a successful woman in the music industry whose more recent songs often aim to expose the pain of heartbreak and teach people that they deserve partners who treat them well and recognize their worth?
In terms of the men who hate her, I would say it’s because they can’t stand to see a successful woman who knows her worth. When a woman knows her worth, it’s harder for a man to manipulate her and convince her that she needs him in her life to be of value. I believe a lot of these men are also insecure. An independent, fierce woman is a threat to their already fragile masculinity. This insecurity, I would also argue, is a direct result of patriarchy and the belief that men must be the stronger ones in society or in a relationship. Not only is Taylor a strong woman herself, but she encourages other women to be strong too, and men don’t like that because one, it means they won’t be able to take advantage of women as easily as they once could, and two, it goes against the belief I mentioned earlier that has likely been ingrained in them since childhood.
Even with the women who decide that they hate her, I’d argue that feeling comes from a similar place, except it’s internalized. Women are taught not to be like other girls. Young girls are shamed for wearing makeup and expressing their femininity, yet they’re also shamed for doing the opposite. If they fit into the first category, they’re too much like other girls and are used as a pawn to justify a stereotype. On the other hand, if they fit into the second category, they’re seen as not woman enough and lazy. So, when young girls see that a lot of their peers love Swift, they may hate her for the sole reason that they think they’ll be picked and valued more by boys or others if they don’t like her. It’s similar to the color pink, which many TikTok users recount hating as children but then loving after growing up because they realized it’s okay to like things that other girls also like.
In the end, I think it’s important when we find ourselves disliking someone to examine the “why” behind our distaste. Is it because they genuinely have done something wrong and/or been bigoted? Or is it the result of one of our internalized biases? By having an open mind and going through this thought process, we can unpack the biases we do have and learn to change our viewpoints.
What a terrible article, she’s hated because of the way she portrays herself, it has nothing to do with “success”. A lot of celebrities have come out and said she’s an awful human being with a permanent victim mentality. I’m female and I’m embarrassed that she’s one of the top female singers, she puts a bad name to absolute gems like Beyonce and Adele.

Speaking for myself, she’s a fabulous songwriter. She is a shoddy, inconsistent vocalist live. When your job is to sing, you should be able to sing your own songs that you wrote seamlessly and hit the notes you selected. She is often flat, sometimes sharp, and her breathing isn’t correct. I don’t think she is a talented singer. If you want to argue, “everyone has an off night when performing”, look at live theater. These are trained vocalists who you could never tell had a bad night with a throat tickle or under the weather.

Others resent her because they feel her wealthy parents bought the beginning of her career. Others do because she is so vindictive that she’s re-recording old albums (asking her fans to pay twice for the same music, or, in the case of the latest one with 4 covers to choose from, 5 times) just to punish a guy because she screwed up when she signed the contract. (Misogyny? Sounds more like she hates men.) And if there’s one solo on the new version that’s off, she’s taking a fan’s music away as far as streaming, because now she’ll pull her entire catalog from any service that plays the original versions to keep Ol’ Scooter from getting money he was contractually entitled to.
She has indeed given lots of money to the crew, charities, etc cetera. So have a lot of other uber-successful musical acts over the years, they just did it quietly and not as a PR gimmick. And she made so much that giving a million to someone is like me tipping a penny.
And she’s still making bad decisions. Drunk with the power to raise prices to heaven on her concerts (and now football games) and then to act innocent and surprised, she hasn’t even noticed that the poster promoting her broadcast of her “Eras tour” (really? She has eras? Paleolithic? Marketing Era, maybe) literally looks like she’s passing gas into a microphone. Of course, as money grubbing as she is, she’ll probably sell an album of that too.
You forgot to mention that she probably planned the re-recording fiasco even before the Scooter deal…because her dad made 15 million bucks off that deal.

The average musician scuffles to even pay the rent, yet the so-called “music industry” (which has always been corrupt and full of shit) anoints this chick (who struts the runway like a cat-walking fashion model in underwear) whilst singing nursery-rhyme level pap that’s auto-tuned and probably fake in concert. She can redeem herself and her ill-gotten gains (daddy bought her way “in”) by creating a musician-centric Spotify alternative, as she’s been called upon to do.
