Coachella was held this past week for the first time since the pandemic. The music festival has always been a popular event among influencers and celebrities and gives them the opportunity to wear outfits that would be deemed questionable and inappropriate in other contexts.
This is the first Coachella that TikTokers Charli and Dixie D’Amelio and friends have been able to attend. So, let us start here. One of Charli’s outfits leaves me with mixed feelings. Her all-black outfit consisted of a silk mini dress with a mesh skirt that went to her ankles. The skirt was layered around the knees. She finished off the look with platform Converse, a black choker, and black sunglasses. It was a simple outfit, but simple is not a bad thing. Even though Coachella is about crazy and very exposed outfits, the simplicity of Charli’s outfit is refreshing.
Now, onto her older sister, Dixie. Like her sister, Dixie opted for a tamer Coachella outfit. Wearing low-waisted, dark-wash jeans and a matching jean jacket, Dixie looked very 2000’s chic. To match her jean-pant-jacket combo, she wore a denim bralette-like top and styled the outfit with pops of white: white sunglasses, a white purse, and white shoes.
These two were not the only ones that went with more laid-back, but still very much stylish, outfits. Kendall Jenner wore relaxed outfits to each day of the music festival. She showed up in a cropped cream tank with loose pants. Her hair was slicked back into pigtails and braids. Her outfit elicited a positive response from many. Similarly, Hailey Bieber wore low-wasted baggy jeans and a white tank with an oversized, black, leather jacket.
On the other hand, I have a few questions about others’ outfits. What was Megan Thee Stallion wearing? Looked like she was wearing a mini dress made for a toddler, or something that they sell at Justice. To each their own is what I always say, but that just raised eyebrows. She was carrying a nice, pink, Chanel purse, even though that pink hue is not my first choice. It did match the craziness about the outfit.
Chloe Cherry is another celebrity whose outfit I simply cannot get behind. Let’s start with the top. It’s a one-shoulder, white, cropped tee that says “sex with you sucks.” She paired that shirt, most likely found at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby, with a Y2K, low-waisted, short, jean skirt with patches on it. One of those patches was an avocado I believe. Not only is she wearing pink hand warmers to match her white and purple shirt, but she is also wearing blue leg warmers and lilac sneakers—a very interesting combination that puzzles me greatly. To finish off her look, she has her hair up in messy pigtails and makeup that looks thrown on. I’m assuming she is embracing the comeback of Y2K fashion, but it is definitely overkill.
I am not an expert on fashion in any way, shape, or form, but I think I can spot a fashion mistake when I see it. Megan Thee Stallion and Chloe Cherry are among those who did not show up to Coachella in the laidback and comfortable fashion style that Hailey Bieber and Kendall Jenner sported. Another outfit you must look up to get second hand embarrassment is James Charles’. His outfits are always questionable, regardless of the occasion. I am glad Coachella is back. It exhibits some sort of normalcy.
