You Don’t Want to Miss Out on These Art Clubs
This past Friday, St. Lawrence University had the annual Student Organization Fair outside the Sullivan Student Center. Different clubs and their committee members, completely made up of undergraduate students, gathered to promote their organization.
The tables outside the student center were filled with flyers, mission statements and signup sheets for the student body to look at. Perusing students were debuting first years and seniors alike. For seniors, this is their last year to have the opportunity to be a part of a club.
One thing that makes St. Lawrence special is the fact that it is a liberal arts institution. St. Lawrence is known for its alumni services, study abroad programs and its totally unique Humanities Department. The university also takes pride in being diverse, open and encouraging to the student body to express themselves and become the leaders of tomorrow. The freedom and support this campus gives the Arts Department are particularly special, in my opinion.
Regarding Friday’s club fair, there were a lot of arts and entertainment-related organizations that students might have walked past. For example, organizations such as The Hill News, the Laurentian Magazine, Performance Arts Annex Club, Association for Campus Entertainment, Film Club, Dance Ensemble and the fan favorite Java Barn were all tabling.
The Java Barn is special to many since it is an open space with a stage toward the intramural fields and J lot. Java hosts many performances with special guests who are recommended to come and perform, but there are also many great talents right here at SLU who will sometimes perform. Java Barn signifies a SLU-defining legacy for a lot of students, especially over the weekend. Java is just one of the many entertainment venues on this campus. Other on-campus venues such as theaters and art galleries can be found in the Noble Center.
For those who are still interested but were not able to sign up at the Student Organization Fair, there is still time. If you were not able to make it or did not get to come across some of those clubs from the fair, do not hesitate to email any of the heads of these clubs. You could also ask a friend, go on SLU’s website, or go on Presence and see where they meet. It is easy to walk in on one of their meetings or sign up. Once you do: boom, you are now a part of an arts organization at St. Lawrence University.
