Where to Find the Groove!!!

0

Hey all you cool cats! Long time no writing! It is your acclaimed Hill News Staff Writer Kate Bouchard, coming back to you with another article. With springtime fast approaching, there are warmer days, blooming flowers, the return of parties, and wonderful spring showers. All the new growth and fun that is to come for the remainder of the semester only leaves one question remaining: Where can I find the groove on this lovely campus? Springtime means time to boogey! So, where will the boogying be done?

Firstly, I like to look at our beloved Java Barn Music. Last Thursday, April 4, the Java Beans brought the house down with two banger bands! Telescope Club and the rock- in’ Bermuda Search Party! Unfortunately, due to tardiness, I missed Telescope Club’s performance! But I heard they were having a holler and equally throwing some shade at Greek life on campus. What was that all about? Unnecessary drama if I have heard any. However, I arrived on time to see the SLAMMING, JAMMING, ROCKSTAR of a performance that the Bermuda Search Party put on. Wow — was I blown away. Immediately, the first song on the stage, they came out with a banger and didn’t slow their role all performance. Their energy, tunes, HORN SECTION, and all were unbelievable. Even the occasional slam poetry was a unique taste as well. It was an electric night for everyone in the venue; I especially appreciated the subtle moshing throughout the evening.

Looking at upcoming Java shows, we only have three performances left in the semester! One is bRAVE (which is a rave show co–hosted by the Dub), Mr. Charlie and the Blues for Breakfast (an annual rager of a show), and finally, Open Mic Night!

Where, oh, where will we find other spaces to groove throughout the remainder of the semester? Of course, the occasional house show here or there. But those are always unpredictable. Springfest is coming up as well, which is a stellar all-day dance party. But is that it? Is that the remainder of the dancing for the semester? Fear not, folks, for I have some news for you!

The 12th Annual North Country Folk Festival is happening this year! The bountiful Folk Fest will take place on Friday, April 26, from 3 to 11 p.m.! This ram-jamming, hootin’, butt-wiggling event consists of a range of student performers and local and large bands! The bands play anything within the genre of folk music (which is a large and subjective genre). During the whole event, music should be playing the entirety of the time! The perfect event to groove until you’re grooved out! If that is even possible.

On top of the stellar sounds omitted from the stage, there will also be students and local vendors selling their goodies! This ranges from knitwear to pickled foods and even to up-cycled ski designs! Don’t forget to stop by one of our local farms to learn more about what they do to feed our community. Folk Fest is the perfect chance for a final weekend of grooving and offers other alternatives to connect with the local community. Be sure to check it out on April 26!
