Truth is…Lizzo’s Racking Up The Awards

0

The 2020 Grammy Awards, which took place on Sunday, January 26th, proved once again that Lizzo is a talented musician, feminist icon and amazing performer all in one. After releasing anthems such as “Truth Hurts” and “Good as Hell,” Lizzo went into the Grammy Awards as the most nominated artist of the night with eight nominations for various categories, including Song of the Year and Pop Solo Performance of the Year.

She started off the night with a spoken tribute to Kobe Bryant before delivering a breathtaking performance of her album’s title track “Cuz I Love You” and her chart-topping hit “Truth Hurts.”

Lizzo ended her night taking home three trophies for Best Pop Solo Performance for “Truth Hurts,” Best Traditional R&B Performance for “Jerome” as well as Best Urban Contemporary Album for “Cuz I Love You.” For Best Pop Solo Performance, she beat out other well-known nominees, including Taylor Swift (“You Need to Calm Down”), Ariana Grande (“7 Rings”), Billie Eilish (“bad guy”) and Beyonce (“Spirit”). Aside from the success of her music and her empowering messages in media, Lizzo has also proven to be a class act and an inspiration time and time again.

It was no different on the night of the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, as she, along with several other celebrities, declined to give a red carpet interview out of respect for those who were affected by the tragic helicopter crash that took place in Calabasas, California on the very same day.

Putting aside her success at the show, Lizzo chose to focus instead on the tragedy that took place and discussed how quickly life can change while accepting the award for “Truth Hurts.” She mentioned those who must be hurting because of the tragedy and how important it is to “continue to reach out, hold each other down and lift each other up.”

With her increasing success, powerful performances, messages about self-acceptance and positive body image, and presence at this year’s Grammy Awards, Lizzo is proving that she is a force to be reckoned with in the music industry.

This can only mean good things since there is a need for more inspiring feminist icons like her who spread messages through their music, performances and interviews. A first-time nominee, with eight nominations and three trophies, Lizzo is here to stay and will hopefully continue to wow her audience with breathtaking performances and music for the next few years.
