St. Lawrence Film Club Starts Up Again

This semester, the St. Lawrence Film Club is back up and running. The recently rebooted club has already had two film screenings in Richardson 15, “Carrie” and “Scream.” 

The re-emergence of the Film Club is partially due to the new Film and Digital Media Production major, according to Film Club Secretary Maya Mackey ’24. “We decided to help reboot film club in the hopes of providing a space for like-minded individuals,” Mackey said. Along with holding film screenings, the club is a place to pitch and launch film project ideas and discuss favorite movies. 

According to Mackey, their club meetings have a few different elements. “Often at least one member or two has an idea for a class or independent project they’d like to pitch or get feedback on,” she said. “We also spend a ton of time talking about movies and sharing perspectives/movie recommendations.” The club also plans movie screenings, which they have held in Richardson Hall. For the fall season, they are screening a series of Halloween-related films.  

Mackey is hoping that anyone interested in the Film and Digital Media Production major, or who has a love or interest for film, will join. “We’d like to make film club more accessible to the campus community— to get more screenings in, for one, and to advertise the club to prospective majors and movie lovers alike,” she said. The film club already has the equipment needed for film screenings. In the future, she hopes that film club members can start making and filming their own productions.  

Film club meetings are held every other Thursday at noon in the Noble Underground.
