Field Hockey Starts Season Strong Saints Begin 2025 Season 3-0 Field Hockey

The St. Lawrence Field Hockey team’s season is in full swing, and since pre-season, they have put in countless hours of hard work both on and off the field. Starting the year with three consecutive wins, the team’s success has accumulated from group efforts across the field. Starting with a big 3-0 win over SUNY Oneonta, several players tallied points to begin the season. This energy carried through to the next match against Utica University, where the Saints totaled five goals by the end of the fourth quarter. After travelling to Pennsylvania, the team returned with another 5-0 shutout victory over Moravian University. These three games have set the tone for the rest of the season and demonstrate the kind of year they are working for. A big part of their success thus far can be attributed to Head Coach Fran Grembowicz and the new addition, Oliver Bihkazi-Green ’25, as a Graduate Assistant Coach. With the collaboration of both coaches, the team has grown together and improved drastically over the last few years. “Fran’s experience with coaching and the amount of planning she does every day is such a big reason why we have seen so much improvement- especially this year”, said Lily Gubbins ’27. Bihkazi-Green has brought an emphasis to many new areas. “Oli had made such a significant impact on the skill level of our team and has brought amazing insight to our game from a new perspective”, said Sofia Passalacqua ’27. The chance to have two very knowledgeable people leading the team is something the Saints are taking full advantage of. “What I admire most is how Coach Fran and Oli have blended their coaching perspectives and experiences to lead the team towards growth and success”, said Maddy Shaw ’27. The efforts made by both coaches and players on the team have built a solid foundation thus far. With a strong start to the season and with the support of both coaches, the field hockey team hopes to continue pushing each other and working hard during the 2025 season.
