The Red Wave: Failure of The Democratic Party

The shifting winds of the American political system are blowing against the Democrats. Increasingly solid democratic states seem poised to flip red, a clear condemnation of party direction and message. Races such as New York’s governor, and the countless senate races are now in the mix. New York is a liberal stronghold, a bastion of progressive policy. 

However, the surge in the Lee Zeldin campaign combined with Kathy Hochul’s pathetic performance as Governor seems to invite a Republican victory. Even if Zeldin comes in five points of Hochul, the disaster that Democrats have long feared is assured. Now, what are the races that democrats in the senate are likely to lose? 

First, in Nevada there is a crucial swing seat. It is also the home of Death Valley. Nevada is a work- ing-class diverse state and is highly likely to elect Republican Adam Laxalt as its next Senator. Turning Nevada red would kill Democratic majority in the Senate and hand back Mitch McConnell his majority. Ohio is likely to maintain its Republican status: J.D Vance will beat Tim Ryan. Even Pennsylvania is a slam dunk for Republicans with John Fetterman now effectively labeled as an invalid following his debate performance. The winds have shifted from June, and a red tide is going to destroy the careers the ambitions of Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer. 

But, why are the Democrats down by so much nationwide? Why are democrats going to be crushed in these coming midterms? The answer is simple as James Carville once said, “it’s the economy stupid” and the economy is going off a cliff. Instead of trying to tackle inflation beyond spending more money or applying pressure on the federal reserve to tighten the money supply, the Democrats have been whining about abortion. Well, frankly the issue of the economy has far more appeal than abortion, and that is just a fact. By running away from the economy and merely focusing on abortion or Jan. 6th Democrats are missing the forest for the trees. They are failing to address the real concerns of Americans and are playing checkers while the Republicans are playing chess. Frankly, the Democrats just by virtue of their poor strategy deserve to lose. This election will be a red wave and Democrats will suffer lessons that must be learned, for the fate of the democratic
