Volleyball Looks to Secure Spot in LL Playoffs

0

Saints will challenge Union and Vassar this upcoming weekend.

After tying the weekend 1-1 against two Liberty League competitors, Ithaca College and Bard College, the St. Lawrence volleyball team is looking to beat out one more team to secure a spot in the 2025 playoffs.

To do so, they must push someone else out.

As the Saints emerged victorious against their previous Liberty League opponents, Bard and Rochester Institute of Technology, they will have to play hard and consistently in their upcoming matches.

With four new first-years and a transfer sophomore, the Saints have a deep roster of returners and new players who have been working cohesively during practices and games.

“I think our team has really gotten to know each other well, and our chemistry is unmatched,” an anonymous Saints player noted. “We work well together, and that is a determining factor for the playoffs. Now, we just have to go in hungry and execute our goals for this weekend if we want to make the playoffs.”

The key lies in this upcoming weekend’s matches, as the Union College Chargers and Vassar College Brewers will trek up to Canton on Friday and Saturday, respectively.

To prepare for their upcoming Liberty League opponents, the Saints have been practicing three times a week, lifting twice a week, and resting their bodies once a week. Of these practices so far this week, Monday has been more drill-centered, as the Saints worked on tooling blocks, serving, first contact and other technical skills to set them up for success.

“Union and Vassar are both really good blocking teams, so we are going to prepare accordingly in the gym,” another Saint commented.

While Monday served as a drill day, Tuesday’s entire practice was for scrimmaging.

“I think our scrimmage yesterday set us up well because we had high energy, and the captains told us that this is our time to make or break the playoffs. We’re up against some pretty good teams, but if we hold our energy and focus, we got it,” said Rose Meihaus ‘26.

The Saints will kick their Liberty League games off in Burkman this Friday at 7 p.m. for their matchup against Union.
