0

This past Tuesday, Campus Kitchens Program hosted a karaoke night at Pub56 to raise money for the organization. The event was in partnership with Commons College and Alpha Tau Omega.

The karaoke fundraiser worked through a nomination process. For $2, a person could pay to nominate someone else to sing. If the nominee did not want to sing, they could pay $5 to opt out.

“We had a great turnout,” said CKP Co-Social Chair Rose Meihaus ‘26. She said it was fun to see people participating, even if it was at the expense of their friend’s embarrassment. “Everybody came and sang their hearts out,” said Meihaus.

The songs performed ranged from solos of “Chasing Pavements” by Adele and “Pink Pony Club” by Chappel Roan to duets of “Bad Blood” by Taylor Swift and “Breaking Free” from High School Musical.

“I liked that people didn’t take it super seriously, and I feel like because of that, people were more willing to participate,” said audience member Carson Hanna ’27.

Olivia May ’26, a member of Commons, noted that there were a lot of different campus groups at the event. “It was a great time,” she said.

“The money we fundraised directly goes to being able to afford food and or better food to help feed more people in Canton who struggle with food insecurity,” said CKP Co-President Connor Shea ’26.

CKP is an organization and theme house on campus at St. Lawrence University. The club’s goal is to help fight food insecurity in the North Country. Every week, club members and volunteers make and deliver 80 meals for the Canton community, as well as provide local schools with snack packs.

Starting Nov. 9, CKP will host Hunger Awareness Week. The entire week is dedicated to raising awareness of food insecurity and teaching people what they can do to contribute to supporting the cause. “We will do a lot of collaborations with other clubs and do tournaments to get people to know about Campus Kitchens,” said CKP Co-Social Chair, Opor Promkaewtor ’27. The fundraising events include a Flag Football Tournament, tote bag stamping with Seed to Table, a SLU Funk performance in the Sullivan Student Center, and more.

Every Friday of the semester, Commons volunteers at the North County Children’s Museum in Potsdam, N.Y. The group says that they are always looking for volunteers to come along.
