Last Day to View Student Art Show

0

Today, March 7, is the last day to visit the 2025 College Juried Art Show at the Fredrick Remington Art Museum in Ogdensburg, New York. Students from St. Lawrence University, Clarkson University, SUNY Plattsburgh and SUNY Potsdam submitted their individual artworks in late January. Students submitted up to three works of their creation through the museum website. They quickly heard back about their acceptance within a week after the submission deadline.

This year’s juror was John Morrow, an Ogdensburg-based artist who operates a frame shop with his wife. His work has been featured in several publications and exhibited across the country. In a statement from the SLU website, Morrow said of his art, “My work has been influenced by many artists over the years, including Andrew Wyeth, Richard Schmid, Edward Hopper, Frederic Remington, many of the Impressionists and artists of The Hudson River School. I work in watercolor, oil and acrylic, often choosing the media that best suits my subject. Experimentation is an important aspect of work that keeps me from being stagnant.” Many of his subjects are from settings in the St. Lawrence Valley, where many North Country student artists now find their inspiration.

The student exhibit has been held in the museum’s Richard E. Winter Gallery and the Torrey Family Galleries. It was opened to the public on Feb. 15 during Remington’s Heart of Winter event. Artworks of any media were accepted, including paintings, drawings, collages, sculptures, short films and occasionally, longer-format films.

Featured SLU students include Luciana Postizzi ’26, Carmiña Goya ’25, Tessa Munro ’25, Sam Briody ’26, Mikel Salas-Warner ’27, Aidan Begel ’27, Jack Gaulter ’25, Tasman Kanze ’28, Alexandria Hopkins ’25, Grace Callanan ’25, Amalia Kanitz ’28, Evelyn Albrecht ’25, Molly Sullivan ’25 and Madeline Haines ’25. The exhibit also featured 14 students from the other Northern New York schools.

Remington has held a strong relationship with SLU, having curated these types of student-featured shows for several years. The museum offers a summer internship program through the SLU Public Interest Corps.

For any student interested in next year’s juried exhibition (or next year’s internship), please contact Remington’s curator Romi Sebald at (315) 393-2425 or the Fredrick Remington website.
