SLU Eats Makes A Return

SLU Eats, the beloved weekly on-campus food delivery system, has become an integral part of St. Lawrence University’s culinary landscape since its inception in 2022 by the visionary Trey Souder. Inspired by his successful ventures in organizing bulk Chipotle orders at his previous prep school, Souder decided to bring the concept to SLU during his first year in the fall of 2022. Recognizing the challenge many students face in accessing comforting, fast food, especially without transportation, Souder’s initiative aimed to bridge this gap.  

However, after Souder’s departure, SLU Eats faced a hiatus until the fall semester of 2023, when Colby Lauria, a junior at the time, resurrected the beloved service. Lauria reached out to Souder to seek his blessing and restarted SLU Eats, ensuring Souder’s legacy continued at St. Lawrence University.  

In the subsequent semester (Fall 2023), Addy Rogers, a sophomore, joined forces with Lauria, initially perceiving her involvement as a one-time commitment. With Lauria studying abroad in Italy during the spring semester of 2024, SLU Eats faced the challenge of being forgotten. Determined to keep the service alive, Lauria entrusted Rogers with its continuation during his absence. Unhesitatingly, Rogers embraced the responsibility and not only managed the Friday pick-up and delivery logistics but also took charge of creating eye-catching posters scattered around campus and maintaining the vibrant SLU Eats Instagram page.  

Understanding the simplicity of SLU Eats is crucial for its success. Students and interested staff can conveniently place their orders using the link in the Instagram bio or QR codes strategically placed around campus. To facilitate secure transactions, SLU Eats primarily utilizes Venmo for payments, eliminating the need for credit cards. Additionally, cash and Google Pay are accepted, with efforts underway to incorporate Apple Pay into the payment options.  

Every Friday, the deadline for orders is set at noon. Rogers efficiently processes the orders through the respective restaurant’s website and embarks on a journey to collect the delectable offerings. Returning around 5:30 pm to the first floor of the student center, Rogers ensures that the eagerly awaited meals reach their rightful recipients, giving notifications on Instagram of her whole process. Notably, SLU Eats has expanded its repertoire by adding Chick-fil-A to the weekly lineup, aiming to further entice students to indulge in this culinary delight.  

In essence, SLU Eats endeavors to provide the student body and staff with reliable and delectable food options, ensuring that their weekends kick off on a delightful note. The collaborative efforts of Souder, Lauria, and Rogers have transformed SLU Eats into a cherished institution, weaving a flavorful legacy within the fabric of St. Lawrence University’s community.
