NFL 2025-26 Season Starts With A Bang

0

Hello everyone, it’s Brogan LaRose M’26 back with another article as the National Football League is back and running for the 2025 campaign. Week one featured some already electrifying moments with fanbases either amped up by the direction of their team or, as the kids today say, “crashing out” over their team. Without further ado, I will look at just a few games highlighting this chaotic first week.

1. Dallas Cowboys vs Philadelphia Eagles

Ah, yes, the divisional rivalry between these two continues. The defending Super Bowl Champion, the Philadelphia Eagles, took on one of their divisional rivals, the Dallas Cowboys. Questions were centered around both teams’ pre-snap, as fans were wondering how the Cowboys would operate without Micah Parsons, and losses for the Eagles were a point of contention this offseason. Regardless, both teams came up ready to play. Jalen Hurts was putting on a show early, showcasing his dual-threat abilities by scoring two rushing touchdowns in the first half. For the Cowboys, it was Javonte Williams getting on the board twice, he also connected with two 1-yard rushes to get inside the endzone. After a competitive first half, the score read 21-20 in favor of the Eagles. While not much occurred on the scoring front in the second half, both teams played hard and were doing everything possible to get the win. Ultimately, the Eagles got the job done, 24-20. Hurts went 19-of-23 with 152 passing yards while rushing for 62. Dak Prescott went 21-of-34 with 188 passing yards and connected with CeeDee Lamb, who had seven receptions for 110 yards. For the Eagles, the leading receiver was Jahan Dotson, who caught three passes for 59 yards. With their first game out of the way, both teams have some positives they can look back on when they play each other later in the season.

2. New York Giants vs Washington Commanders

This is going to be a tough one… Being a New York Giants fan has been rough for the past few years, and Sunday’s debacle against the Washington Commanders was no different. While I couldn’t watch this game closely due to work obligations, the fan base of the New York Giants is not particularly happy with how things went down. Nonetheless, Jayden Daniels continued his excellent start in his NFL journey, going for 19-of-30 with 223 passing yards and a touchdown. Jacory Croskey-Merritt led the way on the ground game with 10 carries for 82 yards and a TD, while in the pass game, the newly acquired Deebo Samuel had seven receptions for 77 yards. Things went according to plan for the Commanders, while the same can’t be said for the Giants. With no touchdowns during the game, frustration was boiling over on the sidelines as WR1 Malik Nabers made it known to Head Coach Brian Daboll that he was not happy with how everything materialized. While Nabers contributed five receptions for 71 yards, this proved insufficient to compete with Washington. Post-game, Giant’s fans were going to social media to voice their concerns, whether it was about Russell Wilson, the O-line, or the coaching staff. Fans are not thrilled with the current situation. Yes, it may be only one game, but the Giants will have much-needed conversations to succeed moving forward.

3. Baltimore Ravens vs Buffalo Bills

HOLY COMEBACK! (Sorry for the spoiler if you don’t know.) The showdown between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills was the highlight of week one. Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson faced off in a highly anticipated rivalry game in Buffalo, and neither disappointed. To start, though, Baltimore looked to be in control for most of the game. It wasn’t just Jackson; it was Derrick Henry showcasing his insane skill and ability. Henry gave the Bills’ defense headaches throughout the game, as the standout running back had 18 carries for 169 yards and two touchdowns. His brute force and strength have sometimes become unstoppable for defenses, and it was no different on Sunday night. With 11:42 left in the game, the Ravens had a commanding lead of 40-25 and a sense that they would get the road win. However, Buffalo did not give up. Allen found Keon Coleman in the end zone at 3:56. Then, the Bills recovered a fumble by Baltimore to bring out the offense, which took advantage of the opportunity for Allen to sneak into the end zone. While the two-point conversion failed, the Ravens’ cold streak continued as they went three and out, giving possession back to Buffalo. In the end, Matt Prater connected on a 32-yard field goal to give the Bills the win over the Ravens 41-40.

Week one brought out the best and sometimes the worst of franchises looking to compete for a Super Bowl in 2026. While it’s only the first game, this game could set the tone for the direction in which an organization is going, so it will be interesting to see how teams respond. That will be it for this one! Thank you for tuning in!
