Power of the Bicycle

0

Two wheels, two handlebars, two pedals, two feet, one helmet and no hands (if you’re chill like that). That’s all you need to maneuver around campus and the surrounding area with the utmost efficiency. The bicycle is by far the most life-changing mode of transportation one can have access to on the St. Lawrence University campus. Even the most arduous of treks is no more than three minutes long.

A trip from Gaines Hall to the Karpus Athletics Center is like walking to class in the Noble Center–and the trip back is an absolute thrill ride. The hill on both sides of the Richard F. Brash ’52 Quad sends riders zooming to the sidewalk below, and that momentum can carry halfway to the suites. I cannot stress enough how valuable my bike is to my campus experience. It would be impossible for me to meet my commitments on time if not for my bicycle.

After hitting a deer on the way to SLU and finding myself without a car for the first month of school, this semester I’ve found that a bike is the far more practical way to get downtown. It makes absolutely no sense to walk all the way to J-Lot just to drive for one minute. Maybe I’m a dunce for not realizing this while still in possession of a motor vehicle, but I know I’m not the only one who resorted to using my car too much. I’m here to tell you to bring a bike to school and to use it. Everything will be at your fingertips, except the handlebars. #nohands
