In Unforeseen Move, “Justice League” Gets Oscar Nomination
In a bold and never-before-done announcement, The Academy on Sunday night announced that Zack Snyder’s four hour cut of “Justice League” will be added to the Oscar nominees. The film will have the chance to pick up awards in three categories: Best Picture, Best Actor (Henry Cavill’s CGI upper lip), and Best Director. After the announcement was made and soon became trending across all social media platforms, Oscar himself took to Twitter to post the following statement:
“I am beyond thrilled with the Academy’s decision to add “Justice League” to our nominees this year. The moment I saw Leto’s Joker boast “We live in a society,” in the trailer, I knew we would be in not just for a treat, but a true piece of cinematic art. I had to call in sick from work for the day to watch the film in its entirety, but it was worth it. What we really need in the film industry today is more films that lack lighting so much I can’t tell what’s happening, and repetitive ancient lamentation music that feels a little distasteful. This is what true new Hollywood should be. Congratulations to Snyder and team, and best of luck to all the nominees!”
The nominees also posted about the Academy:
“It was tedious to have to sit in the makeup chair for an extra thirty minutes to draw dots on me so that my mustache could be covered,” @cavillupperlip began on Instagram, “I’m just really glad that they are recognizing my hard work, and I think the team really nailed it so that I looked natural. I’d like to take the opportunity to remember my mustache, the unneeded one for Mission Impossible that wasn’t really integral to the storyline at all. He made this all possible. RIP.”
“Wow, and I thought my 2010 film “Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole” was my magnum opus.” Snyder wrote on his feed, and has only posted “Legend of the Guardians” memes since.
“Justice League” doesn’t just make history with its last minute nomination, but is now the longest film to ever be nominated, beating 1969’s “The Olympics in Mexico” by a full two minutes. Snyder really outdid himself with this one, and there’s definitely not like two hour of the film that could be cut out. In relation to the original film released in 2017, it seems like Joss Whedon is bad at things other than respecting women, as his version was not nominated for any prestigious awards. Really makes you look at the changes from that to Snyder to see how real directing is done.
People have seemed to react differently to the announcement. Some have been raving about how well deserved it is, and that one of the points of contention, Snyder’s lack of character development, is nothing more than a boundary breaking precedence for a future auteur who will impact the film world years to come. Others posted the timestamps they had to stop watching the film, often at hour one or under, stating their distaste for the film and their distrust in the Academy.
Will DC become a true threat to Marvel in the cinematic world? Who will win most prominent military propaganda? Only time will tell, but for now DC will enjoy their nomination whether people like it or not.
