Saints Dominate Tufts

Canton (N.Y) – The SLU Women’s Squash team competed in two matches this past weekend. On Friday night, the #20 Saints dropped a tough loss at #6 ranked Cornell 9-0. It was their fourth straight loss on the road against the top teams in the country: Williams, Trinity, and Yale.  They bounced back on Saturday with a dominant 7-2 win at home against #28 Tufts. Robie Squash Center was packed with fans, and there was an electric atmosphere as both the Men’s and Women’s teams controlled the matches throughout the day.

The Saints were led by Sophomore Jill Baker at the one spot. Baker had a convincing 11-1, 11-4, 11-7 win against the best Tufts had to offer, and improved her overall season record to 5-3.In her final home match as a saint, Senior Brigitte Tousignant had a big 11-6, 11-7, 11-5 win as the number two, and improving her season record to 5-3. Sophomore Emily Terry also won in straight sets at number three, winning 11-6, 11-5, 11-3, now standing a 4-4 record on the season. Zoe Kagan ‘17, Valeria Quan Miranda ‘16, Losangela Batista ‘18, and Paige Buchanan ‘18 were also winners for the Saints, all winning in straight sets against their opponents.

With this victory, the Saints improved to 4-4 on the season. Next weekend, they have their final three matches against Hamilton, Mount Holyoke, and Franklin & Marshall.
