You wake up in the morning and click on your favorite apps, scrolling through hours of posts, liking, commenting, and comparing. One app in particular has seen a lot of recent changes to its accounts with the addition of finstagram to our well known app, Instagram. According to Urban Dictionary, the definition of a finstagram is, “finsta for short, is a mixture of Fake & Instagram. People, usually girls, get a second Instagram account along with their real Instagrams, rinstagrams, to post any pictures or videos they desire. The photos and videos posted are usually funny or embarrassing. Only your closest friends follow this account” (urban dictionary). Finstagram has become a revolution overnight, started by our generation; the app adds another dimension to our use of social media for literally anything.
Think about how many people like and comment on your regular Instagrams, you have to be sure the photos are appropriate to this audience, are edited wicked well, and will garner enough likes to satisfy your Sunday morning post from the weekend. You take multiple photos, edit it to pieces, ask your friend’s opinions, and so on, all to get it just right. Yet, with finstagram, all this melts away. You can post whatever you want, whenever you want, with the most ridiculously captions, edits, tags, and the best part…the photos of course! Finstagram means your parents, random cousins, and people you only follow because they throw you a like every time do not have to see these posts, they are strictly reserved for your best friends who know what a ridiculous human being you are and love you for your selfies, weird posing with alcohol, and strange Snapchats that end up on this account.
Overall, this addition of finstagram to the Instagram world shows how fast our world is progressing, how quick our generation is picking up on it and making it a societal wide trend, and allowing us to continue to be creative in our own ways. Instagram is getting more views by the day because of this addition of more accounts and therefore growing in popularity, I know it is my favorite app to check out every morning, boring class, and night before bed, and I am sure many of you could agree with this factor too.
So I think it is about time you stopped reading, got hip with society, and created your own finsta. You know you want to..
