The Club, located right off of Main Street in the heart of downtown Canton, has opened its doors to serve the local and college community.
Owner Richard Cassara, is working to make The Club an inviting place for all potential patrons. The Club’s slogan boasts, “Eat, Drink, and Linger,” which suggests a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere.
“We’re a restaurant that welcomes college students, professors, and locals. Because without all of them this place won’t work,” Cassara said.
Rooted in local history, The Club’s tin ceilings, carved wood bar and pleasant setup all harken back to it’s history in Canton. In 1880, the building was the home of the Canton Club, a private gentlemen’s club with a poolroom upstairs and a bowling alley downstairs. “Back in ’68 the first place I ever went to in Canton was the Canton Club,” Cassara said.
After the Canton Club closed, the building transformed into a restaurant, becoming home to three establishments: The Elegant Frog, The Glass Onion, and Cucas, a Mexican restaurant that closed in August 2006. The Club boasts four different dining rooms, one consisting of large banquet hall which Cassara promotes as the perfect venue for weddings, birthdays, and other social festivities. The dark, mahogany wood covering the bar and golden yellow walls add to the wide appeal of the restaurant.
“The atmosphere is cozy and pleasing,” one patron said while having dinner with her mother. “The tavern is big enough, so people don’t have to feel crammed the whole time.”
The Club’s main appeal is the reasonably priced menu with substantial variety. The appealing menu has a wide variety of food, from shrimp cocktails to steakburgers. The prices are reasonable and affordable, with entrees spanning from $7.95 to $13.95. Each entrée comes with two sides consisting of mac n’ cheese, waffle fries, a baked potato and others. The Club’s bar boasts twelve different beers on tap including Michelob’s Belgian beer Shock Top, and Magic Hat #9.
Located at right off of Main Street at 25 Court Street, The Club has a beer and dinner special, in addition to happy hour specials. The drink specials go from 9 p.m. to midnight. Students and faculty can contact The Club for reservations at 315-714-3333. Hours of operation include Monday to Saturdays at 11 p.m.- 2 a.m., and on Sundays at 12 p.m.-2 a.m.
