St. Lawrence University sophomores John Calero and Oscar Rodriguez, both 19, were arrested Tuesday by Canton Police and charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Offensive linemen of the football team, and roommates, Calero and Rodriguez were arraigned in Village Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail. Calero was jailed on $20,000 cash or $40,000 bond and Rodriguez on $10,000 cash or $20,000 bond.

Police and St. Lawrence County Drug Task Force used a search warrant to seize just under an ounce of cocaine found in Calero and Rodriguez’s room, 344 Whitman Hall, Tuesday morning. The net worth averaging between $1,000 and $1,200.

Many months of investigation led to Tuesday’s search. The students may face additional charges and more arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

While University Officials were unable to comment, Calero and Rodriguez have both been removed from the football team’s roster.

The investigation is currently on going and the students may face additional charges pending the closing of the investigation.
